Jesus Walk

The Walk – A Day with Jesus

A reflection drawn from lived experience, Scripture, and the slow journey of presence.

Walking is relationship.

It is slow. Steady. Often quiet.

In walking, we listen. We learn. We pay attention.

We stay close to Jesus and to one another.

And when we drift, we walk back.

When we stumble, or step on each other’s toes, we learn grace.

We forgive. We keep walking, one step at a time.

The walk teaches us presence, forgiveness, attentiveness, and love.

Walking the Streets

In the northern suburbs of Adelaide, I’ve walked streets with a friend, David.

We’d set aside time just to walk slowly. Quietly. Paying attention.

We would notice the trees, the homes, the atmosphere. We’d pray simple prayers:

“Father, may Your Kingdom come and Your will be done here.”

We would pause at the end of the street and look back.

And we’d ask one another, “What did you see? What did you feel? What did we learn?”

If someone was outside, we’d greet them. If they were open, we’d offer a quiet blessing:

“May this home be filled with the joy and peace of God, in Jesus’ name.”

Even when no one was present, we’d stop and bless the house.

Something like:

“May God’s love rest here. May joy and grace flood these walls.”

One day, David turned to me and said,

“Mike, like in Ezekiel’s vision, each step we take, the river rises.”

So we kept walking. Step by step.

Trusting that something invisible was rising.

The Spirit flowing. Grace increasing.

Jesus walking with us often unseen, always near.

Walking the Psalm 23 Path

Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He walks with us.

Psalm 23 isn’t just a poem, it’s a lived journey.

He begins by leading us to green pastures, places of nourishment, rest, and security.

Then, He takes us beside still waters, where we learn silence, stillness, and listening.

We pause. We breathe. We drink deep of His presence.

Next comes the path of righteousness, a turning from wrong, a walking in truth.

This is where we grow in obedience, led by His Spirit.

But even this path leads through the valley, the shadowed places of suffering and grief.

In the valley, we may not see Him clearly.

But we sense His presence.

His rod and staff, His strength and authority, guide us.

We keep walking. Slowly. Honestly. Not rushing out of the pain.

Then we come to the table.

Here, Jesus is not just Shepherd, He is King.

He sets the table in the presence of our enemies, but they cannot touch us.

He anoints our heads with oil, the fragrant oil of healing and joy.

And around the table, something sacred happens.

Bread is broken.

The cup is shared.

And we see Him.

Our hearts burn.

Our cups overflow.

This is the walk.

To the table.

From the table.

Through green pastures, still waters, valleys, and anointing.

And sometimes… it all happens in one day.

A Simple Walk

This walk is the shape of our life in Christ.

It’s not a race or a performance.

It’s communion. Confession. Restoration. Mission.

All carried on foot. One step at a time.

Jesus is ahead of us, guiding.

Beside us, comforting.

Behind us, sending.

Within us, sustaining.

And even before we turned to follow Him

He was already walking behind us.

Waiting.

Following.

Calling.

Sending a friend across our path.

Now we walk with Him and we walk with others.

Loving. Forgiving. Learning. Praying.

Sometimes we trip. Sometimes we weep.

At times just the joy and strength of presence.

But we walk on. Together.

And we know that His presence, His goodness, and His mercy will follow us

all the days of our lives.

And we will dwell in His presence today and forever.

🕊️ A Prayer for the Walk

Lord Jesus,

You walk with us in green pastures and dark valleys.

You prepare a table for us.

You anoint our heads with joy.

Teach us to walk with You slowly, humbly, and attentively.

To walk with one another in love.

To walk in our neighbourhoods with open eyes and blessing hearts.

To walk in Your Spirit step by step,

until the earth is filled with the knowledge of Your glory,

as the waters cover the sea.

Amen.
